How to Make Walnut Shrimp

Walnut Shrimp is a crispy battered shrimp drizzle in a creamy mayonnaise-based sauce served with glazed walnuts, lettuce, tomatoes and steamed rice.   This dish is very delicious but if you eat a lot of it, you might feel a little queasy due to the mayonnaise.   Additionally, this recipe is high in calories so it is not good for your sexy body!  However, you can reduce the caloric content of this dish by grilling the shrimps, stir-frying it or even oven baking it.  Furthermore, toast the walnuts instead of frying it.  Unfortunately, the sauce in this recipe is the key so I do not recommend altering or substituting the ingredients.

Unlike all the recipes out there for Walnut Shrimp, my recipe does not contain Honey.  Why?  Well first, this recipe runs in my family and we have been using this recipe for over 15 years and counting.   Second, most Walnut Shrimp recipes out on the web/Youtube uses a combination of Honey, Mayo and Sweetened Condensed Milk which is not wrong, it just I would like to offer something different.  Many recipes called for the shrimp to be tossed with the sauce, but I believed that the sauce should be drizzle when serving because it prevents the breading from becoming soggy.

Another variation on this dish is Walnut Chicken, in which breaded and deep-fried chicken is substituted for the shrimp.  This alternative works well for those who are allergic to seafood and for those who are on a budget.
